STUDENT SENATE 



The Student Senate is Southwestern's functioning organization of student government. 
Members are nominated by each class and voted on by the respective classes in the 
spring. All nominees must be approved by the faculty. 

The Senate meets regularly each week to discuss matters of importance to the stu- 
dent body and decide questions relating to student government problems.

WHO'S WHO 



The Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges is a national 
honor society for outstanding and representative students on American university and col- 
lege campuses. Each year a secret faculty committee nominates certain such students from 
among the senior group for membership in Who's Who. These candidates are approved by 
Who's Who, and members are officially notified of their membership and honor. 

Each year Who's Who publishes a book entitled WHO'S WHO AMONG STUDENTS 
IN AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES, and it is in this volume that the honored 
students receive their prime recognition.

Blue Key is a national honorary fraternity which was founded in 1924 at the Univers- 
ity of Florida by B. C. Riley. This chapter was established at Southwestern in 1948. The fac-

Alpha Chi originated at Southwestern as the Southwestern University Scholarship 
Society in 1915. Later it became organized nationally and the name was changed to Alpha 
Chi. Members of the Texas Alpha chapter, the local society, are elected from among the top

recognition of scholarship and character. Membership is considered the highest scholastic

season, with the Pirates proving their ability 
to play in the rain by stumping the Bobcats, 
8 to 6. 



In the second game of the season, the 
Pirates lost a hard fought heartbreaker to Sam 
Houston State, 8 to 7. 




The Pirates then sailed through a rugged 
defensive battle against Stephen F. Austin with 
a 7 to victory.

Before a Homecoming crowd, the Pirates 
outplayed the Wildcats from Abilene Christian 
College but lost the game with a score of 
7 to 6. Abilene went on to win the Texas 
Conference Championship. 



In their second conference tilt the Pirates 
sent the boys from Howard Payne tumbling 
before a screaming crowd of fans by a score 
of 19 to 13. 




The Austin College Kangaroos found the 
Pirates a weathered crew. Another Pirate 
victory, 27 to 7!

The Pirate ship, loaded with injured Pirates,

tle for the conference crown. The battered 
Pirates fell before the Javelinas from Texas 
A&I, by a score of 26 to 6. 



The Indians from McMurry were too much 
for the weakened Pirates. They defeated the 
fighting Pirates 34 to 14. The game was much 
closer then the score indicated. Leo Chafin re- 
turned a kick-off for a touchdown, only to 
have it called back on a penalty.
